All (but mainly Brian :) ),

I've got my hands on the manual install files for Harpoon's Block 40 HUD mod but i don't know how to use them. Molni recently posted a download link on BMS, but i'm convinced they're not the right files. I'd love it if someone could confirm this by the way.

The files i downloaded came with a very spartan readme file with:

Code:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------F-16 BLOCK 40/42 HUD FILES----------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------

This package contains all files required for manual installation of F-16 Block 40/42 pit. It is a difficult process and if you're not an experienced modder you'd better stick to the installer version.

All the LOD files correspond to the stock F-16 pit models, so:

O.dds -    LOD no. 0; parent no. 1
88.dds -    LOD no. 88; parent no. 2
188 -      LOD no. 188; parent no. 3
189 -       LOD no. 189; parent no. 4
190 -       LOD no. 190; parent no. 5

However, if you want this model to work on F-16 block 42 only you need make 5 new parents and add these models to them.
Also, there are four .dds textures which need to be placed in 'KoreaObj' folder.
The files in 'pits' folder are cockpit files which need to be placed in data/art/ckpart/F-16<block type>/

-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Special thanks to PumpyHead for great help with making this mod.

Cheers!

After reading through 32 pages of his thread on BMS, the only helpful post i found was:

Code:
You can do it if you know LE.
You need to open it's model DB, make 5 new parents: 3120, 3121, 3122, 3123 and 3124, write all settings just like the standard parents, then add 5 new LODs, the ones within the manual installation archive, apply those lods to the parent records mentioned above and then add 4 new textures to DB (also from the archive).
After that it's good to go.

The download came with some texture files, 4 LOD files (0.lod, 82.lod, 188.lod, 189.lod and 190.lod) and 2 of the cockpit.dat files.

After (hesitantly) poking around in LE, i can't see how to create new parents. I know how to associate LODS with parents and textures with LODS (i think). Once i create the parents, how do i associate them with the Block 40/42 cockpits?

Any help would be appreciated!

I don't want to use the auto installers as i don't want them changing my Lunch Mod. :D

EDIT: Here's a link to the files http://www.mediafire.com/download/x2e9w ... HUD_Mod.7z

Well do you want this to modify the Blk 40 or Blk42?? Also, which thread are you referring to?

When you open LE, click on the Setup Wizard. In the first box you can add a new parent.

Truthfully, I've never messed around with adding HUD/Cockpit stuff, never interested me.

I may have figured something out. First, I think you don't need to use the Setup Wizard.

Will let you know shortly.

Okay first attempt at this and I'm all over this MOFO.

Original BLK40 pit/HUD:

Newly installed Harpoon pit/HUD:

Now that's progress :D

I was trying to add the shit, but removed the shit and now have to figure out how to add the shit, lol

JanHas has tut's to add/append models and how to add cockpit wing models but nothing on pit/HUD's, WTH.

Pretty sure there's a tut out there somewhere.

The DB isn't scrooged, it fly's fine, haha, just no pit/HUD.

Back to the drawing board. :bang:

LOL!!!

You should box up this mod for crazy. I know he's got this Wonder Woman fantasy that he's been wanting to play out and an invisible jet is a great place to start. Tom has already sent him his "power bracers" and spaz sent him his girdle, so he's already well on his way. AWESOME!

Pretty sure I figured it out. Just have to implement it and see how it goes. If it works, be prepared for a huge tutorial....

That was done with the .exe to get it into the DB, I've backwards engivestigated it for a manual install. Going to do that now.

The text files are ambiguous and don't really explain it clearly. Think I figured it out though.

Will report back in a bit. Jumping in feet first, hehe

You're totally right there with respect to the LOD files. Only one of them is correct and that is only in size, not name, they are all incorrect on name.

Instead of:

0.LOD - 1KB
82.LOD - 1722KB
188.LOD - 4886KB
189.LOD - 3KB
190.LOD - 524KB

They should be:
7318.LOD - 4447KB
7319.LOD - 535KB
7320.LOD - 5219KB
7321.LOD - 3KB
7322.LOD - 553KB

So somewhere something got scrooged.

The texture files are the correct ones. Now I need to make sure the ckptart.dat files are ok.

I've built my new parents but I'm going to start from scratch tomorrow with a fresh DB.

Can't believe I've spent 3 days on this stuff :bang:
