Yeah, gotto say it's a long-shot. But when I see so many people say it blows them away, I just felt I had to try it. Even though I would normally wait for next gen or whatever is around the corner.

I'll just look at it as objectively as I can, and if it doesn't blow me away, it's going back.

Gives me more time to play my recorder then, lol.

Hahahaha, good one, Spaz :D

Well, it was delivered a day early and I've done some first tests already.

First impressions:

- FOV isn't as wide as I expected (never bothered to look up the FOV specs)
- Well, it's very different. Barrel rolls and maneuvers give me butterflies in my stomach, or make me dizzy.
- Taxiing, takeoff and landing is easier now with the prop planes. Can actually open the canopy on final and stick your head out of the window to see the runway.
- You get an idea of how large the weapons are you're carrying. The KA-50 rocket pods and Vikhr missiles are huge.
- I can actually read the cockpit dials better than I could on my screen. There is hands down more blurriness to the image though, but it's not a big factor for me. My piss-poor eyesight may actually be an advantage here.
- Framerates are at high settings jumping between 45-90fs mostly. Vsync is forced on for VR cause else it makes people very sick apparently.
A big plus for me: less eye-strain. You actually focus your eyes to the distance you're looking at. Not constantly at 40cm or so to your screen distance.

I'm installing DCS 2.0 Alpha now cause that one runs a lot smoother than 1.5 and should have better VR support.

I'll let you guys know more once I've got a few more hours in the pit.

A little update:

I did one of the missions I made some years ago for an A-10C campaign, and it was one of the most amazing flights I have ever done.

Yes, things are a bit fuzzy compared to, but once you're flying you don't notice it. So you trade in sharpness for 3D and immersion I guess.
The head tracking however, I don't know how they've done it, but it's absolutely fantastic. I love the 1:1 ratio, and it never flips like TrackIR does. You can look over your shoulder, back down in the pit for the radio's (which was always a pain in the A-10), never skips a beat.
I've never had SA as I had now.

It does also get slightly warm on your face. So in the summer, if your ambient temp is pretty high, I doubt it'll be very enjoyable to wear the rift.

Basically: if you have the money to spend then go for it. Of course me being a DCS'er makes the investment more easy. If you're not into DCS at all, then it's pretty much pointless I reckon. Apart from you Elite Dangerous people of course.

Hey Kris, did you buy the one with 2 screens in it? Supposed to be a lot better resolution than the single screen. The one I looked at today (2 screens) was $600.00

this is what i ordered:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VF ... UTF8&psc=1

pretty sure its what kris got as well. basically only two good options for VR right now, oculus rift, and htc vive. rift is 600, vive 800. vive comes with controllers and is room scale. vive also has some issues in elite
