there are three ways to play elite. the open persistent online world, a private world, or solo. they are all connected online, using the online markets and such. just you wont see other players in private or solo.

we all play in open for the most part. elite uses instancing, so around a "community event" you will see a ton of users, but outside of that, usually just a few here and there. space is fucking huge. and empty, except for NPC's. and once you get "outside the bubble" of inhabited space, its just empty. but there are probably 20k inhabited systems.

Ah ok. Just read something about griefing going on on the public server. But that's not a problem as far as you guys have experienced?

That'd be sweet. I haven't got much to do these days anyway so I'd happily make some more missions. Plus, like I told Brian yesterday, would be awesome to have some people in there and then everybody can do their preferred business whether it'd be helicopters, CAP, CAS, ...

The DCS future looks bright I think, but one requires a shitload of patience!

never been attacked. at all.

but like in any game, some asshat will think its fun to attack poorly armed traders, or newbs. as for elite, there's plenty to do without taking your poorly armed trading ship to a "community event"

and there are things you can do to prepare for "surprise attack" as well.

97% of the time he flies harmlessly by...

So when you wreck your ship, you've got to start from scratch again? Or is there space-insurance? :D

Btw, I have the CV1 Rift (so two screens indeed, so you can mechanically set your IPD). I must be half alien or ugly as fuck, because I had to set mine to max separation lol :)

there's space insurance. also it would take a pretty bad wreck to kill a shielded ship.
