Hoping Kris or Krazy kould help me out with the latest discovery on what was supposed to be my dream PC.

I've addressed the booting issues i was having my unplugging my sim devices after use. Fine, you win that round computer.

Since then, everything has been pretty sweet to be honest. UNTIL, the other night when everything was feeling sluggish. Turns out it was just an unusually long boot-time of my AV and CPU monitoring software. While i was pissed off and poking around, i realized that windows was only recognizing 8GB RAM of the 16GB (4 - 4GB sticks) i have installed. I turned the computer off, pulled all the sticks and put them back in. Windows then again saw all 16GB.

A few days later, i noticed that windows was only seeing 12GB of RAM. I went into the BIOS, and sure enough, only 3 sticks were recognized. Again, i pulled the sticks and re-seated them and all was good. I ran memtest86 for 8.5 hours and completed 4 passes without any errors (which i understand is a really good result) -- so all the RAM modules are fine.

After another boot or 2 it happens again -- 12GB recognized. This time i leave the RAM alone and re-flash my BIOS to the latest version (which i already had). After re-flashing, all 16GB were recognized.

It happened again tonight after not using the computer for a few days. Flashed the BIOS and again it is seeing all the RAM.

I suspect there is a problem with the motherboard, which could also explain the boot issues i was having, but i'm super shocked that flashing the BIOS addresses the RAM recognition thing. It makes me believe that this particular issue might not be a hardware issue. Plus i really don't want to RMA the board. It is going to take forever and i don't want to be without if i can avoid it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

s

Pfew, that doesn't sound too good. RMA seems quite likely, or else try running for a while with 8GB of memory only (I think 12 will kill your dual channel speed) for a while. I doubt you'll notice a difference between 16 or 8.

I'm going to roll back the BIOS version tonight to see if it helps. I didn't notice it before, but as you say, 90% of my computing time doesn't use more than 8GB.

F*** YOU ASUS!!! :x
